History Evansville was born on 200 acres of land purchased from the government in 1812 by Hugh McGary, Jr. McGary enlisted General Robert M. Evans, an attorney and territorial legislator for whom Evansville was ultimately named, to assist in incorporating Evansville as a city. Evansville was officially incorporated on January 27, 1847 and has served as the economic and social center for the Tri-State area since that time.

Time
Unlike the majority of Indiana, Evansville is in the Central Time Zone. The Evansville area observes Central Standard Time from the last Sunday in October through the first Sunday in April, and Central Daylight Time the remainder of the year. This means we "fall back" an hour each fall and "spring forward" an hour each spring.
Climate
Evansville has a moderate climate and four distinct seasons. Average temperatures range from 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Annual rainfall averages 42 inches and annual snowfall averages 13 inches.
Currency Exchange Services
Fifth Third Bank and Integra Bank offer currency exchange service through all of their Evansville banking centers. Old National Bank offers exchange service through its main banking center at 420 Main Street in Downtown Evansville. Please allow 7 10 days turnaround at all.
Traffic
Indiana law permits right turns on red following a complete stop unless a sign prohibiting this is visible. Left turns on red are legal providing that the turn is made from a one-way street onto a one-way street. Speed limits are generally 30 mph on city streets and 55 mph on expressways.
Alcoholic Beverages
Alcoholic beverages may be purchased Monday Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Purchasers must be 21 years of age. On Sunday, only establishments serving food may sell alcoholic beverages. Sunday hours for services of liquor are 12:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
