Did You Know?
While water was rising in Evansville in the 1937 flood, Evansville College was performing the play "Noah." Hmmm.

GOOD CHEER IN THE NEW YEAR!
We look forward to exciting news to share about Evansville in 2010! The details of the new hotel will be known and construction will begin on the new downtown arena. These new properties combined with The Centre will offer premier facilities for convention groups and sporting events. The new properties are scheduled to open by late 2011 - stay tuned!

In the meantime, here is a sneak peek of the Main Bar in the new Arena!

EVANSVILLE HOSTED RECORD NUMBER IN 2009!
During a year when most destinations reported major losses in the tourism industry, the Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau was happy to release the following figures at the December Board meeting yesterday.

According to the ECVB Convention Calendar for 2009, Evansville hosted a record number of conventions, sports groups, religious conferences and other meetings during the year – 179 groups in 2009 compared to 155 in 2008, an increase of 14% over the previous year. The number of attendees also increased as reflected by our calendar that showed a 17% increase in the hotel occupancy rate for these events.

The ECVB calculates these groups contributed more than $34 million to the local community while visiting Evansville.

2010 will be challenging due to the closure of our convention hotel in downtown. So, for now, we celebrate the good news and look forward to new directions and opportunities!
