EVANSVILLE, IN. – The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau welcomes two large conferences to Evansville this month. This week, the Apostolic World Christian Fellowship World Conference returns for its seventh year in a row. Next week, the fraternal organization White Shrine of Jerusalem brings their annual convention to Evansville for a second time.
According to meeting planners, attendance for both conferences has increased in 2009. The World Apostolic Conference expects nearly 2,000 members from the United States, South America, Central America, Africa and Puerto Rico. The convention dates are April 29, 30 and May 1, 2009. The White Shrine of Jerusalem currently has 375 members registered with more expected before their convention begins on May 7 through May 9, 2009.
Both groups chose the Executive Inn Evansville as the host hotel and will hold their functions at The Centre.
The ECVB calculates the direct expenditures of these two conventions will contribute $1.2 million to Evansville and Vanderburgh County.
Again this June, we are pleased to welcome the Jehovah’s Witness Summer Conference for the fifth year in a row. They bring very good news this year. Due to the success of their conferences here on two weekends each summer, organizers have decided to add a third weekend. This success is due to the Jehovah’s growth and the appreciation they have for our city and their experience here. The ECVB hears these positive comments from church organizers and attendees each year. They are impressed with the friendliness and warmth of our community as well as our city’s affordability and quality facilities.
This year, they will gather here on June 18-21, 25-28 and July 2-5, 2009. Organizers expect 5,000-7,000 attendees each weekend from a four state region. This is a city-wide event - meaning the local and regional hotels are expected to be at full occupancy on all three weekends.
The ECVB recommends that anyone in Evansville planning a wedding, reunion or other large event on these weekends to reserve your hotel rooms very soon, if you haven’t already. If possible, it might be better to select another weekend to host your group.
The Jehovah’s have been Evansville’s largest religious conference since they first selected our city in 2005. The addition of a third weekend increases that by 50% in attendance and the dollars generated. The ECVB calculates the direct expenditure of this group to be over $6 million.
