COMING IN 2011!
It is official. Evansville is getting a new arena and hotel property. This is welcome news for us and the future of the tourism industry for Vanderburgh County. The arena will be located on Main Street and attached to a new hotel that will be located on the current site of the Executive Inn Evansville.

Plans for construction have been sensitive to the importance of the operations of the Executive Inn. As our largest hotel and with several conventions booked there in the next two years, the Executive is a primary hotel property. The current hotel management is working closely with the arena developers to remain open with 250 rooms available after the construction begins in mid-August. Their intention is to keep the hotel operating as close as possible to the opening date of the new property. Browning Investment has announced they expect the new property to open by the first or second quarter of 2011.

The priority for the Evansville CVB is keeping existing business for 2009 and 2010. We are working closely with all of our hoteliers and the groups that have signed to assist in any changes or relocations that become necessary. SMG has agreed to honor contracts with several groups who must relocate their conference as the Executive Inn has announced it will close all meeting space by mid-August. In order to continue business as usual in Evansville, it is imperative that all of our hotels be willing to work with the clients to honor contracts as signed.

The ongoing concern of the ECVB is to maintain communication and encourage cooperation with all principals in the tourism industry to retain existing business as well as to encourage others to continue to bring their conventions and sporting events to Evansville.

Our community is fortunate that our partners work well together. Ultimately, all of us will win if we are deliberate in providing convenient, professional support during this time of transition.
