(EVANSVILLE, IN) – The opening of AMAZONIA, Forest of Riches and the new entry complex at Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden on August 4th, led to the largest attendance week in Zoo history. Over the course of last week, 15,372 guests visited the Zoo with the new AMAZONIA exhibit beating all previous weekly attendance records. By comparison, the Zoo’s attendance for the entire month of August 2007 was 8,113. Saturday’s attendance of 3,914 is the largest paid attendance day in Zoo history, as records going back over a ten year time span reflect.
Zoo officials are very optimistic that the new amenities of the entry complex and the lush tropical environment of AMAZONIA will keep attendance numbers up through the fall and winter months. Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden is open 365 days a year from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the entry gate closes at 4:00 p.m. Admission for adults is $8.50 and $7.50 for children ages 3-12. Children under 3 are free. In recognition of their support, Vanderburgh County residents receive a $1 discount.
