PAINTING PARTY AT THE PAGODA!
The chilly weather didn't daunt the spirits of the talented artists that gathered at the Pagoda on Saturday, April 11th. Twelve artists painted scenes from our beautiful facility. They will submit their finished pictures for judging by the Tri-State Art Guild within the next three months. They plan to return in the summer for another day of Art in the Park. Stay tuned for details!

NEWSWORTHY CONVENTION NEWS
Having back-to-back convention groups in Evansville has garnered a good bit of publicity lately. The Apostolic World Christian Fellowship World Conference followed by the White Shrine of Jerusalem will bring over 2300 people to our city this month generating $1.2 million in direct expenditures to our community. We issued a press release to share the news of this and other large groups expected here this year. The response has been overwhelming from local and statewide media.

In January, the ECVB forecasted a good year for our convention business in 2009. Our calendar then showed more signed bookings than we had ever reported at the beginning of the calendar year. But we qualified our report with caution that we were optimistic but aware of the national downturn in the convention and meetings market.

We now feel confident to report Evansville is not only doing better than expected this year, we are doing better than ever! As of this month, our convention calendar has 107 groups booked guaranteeing 74,398 roomnights for 2009. And we know there are more coming - specifically in the sports market that traditionally book closer to their event.

We are fielding lots of questions, mostly those that ask, "Why Evansville?" Simply put, we are a friendly city conveniently located with affordable hotels and facilities that provide premium service. And how do we know this? Because the meeting and event planners tell us.

This is the fifth consecutive year we have hosted the Apostolic World Christian Fellowship World Conference and the second time we have been privileged to welcome the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

These groups and others who come to Evansville year after year sing our praises. We take those testimonies to new groups and planners we meet with to sell our city for their conferences and events. Those that have been here spread the good news, too.

Our experience is when the word gets out - whether good or bad - it sticks. Looks like the word on Evansville is out and good and spreading.
